My Mobile Phones

Category: Mobiles,UncategorizedKamlesh @ 1:45 pm

Devices! Devices! Devices! These are the mobile phones, I(my family) have used so far:

Nokia 5110, Nokia 3110, Nokia 3115, Nokia 6300, HTC Touch Viva, Nokia 1280

  1. Nokia 5110 was my first Mobile Phone (Year 1999), which was a rough & tough model. (Colleagues nick named it as Hammer!)  [Status - Lost]
  2. I have been fan of the Nokia Navi key. The 2nd Phone was again Nokia model – Nokia 3315. And yes, this phone is still available as backup phone! [Status - Available]
  3. Nokia 3110 – Two things I got for the first time (1) Color display (2) Camera. This phone is now used by my wife :) [Status - Available]
  4. I loved the metallic touch and keypad of Nokia 6300. Mine was red color. Writing text message used to be fun with its keypad. [Status - Exchanged]
  5. Finally arrived the Windows PhoneHTC Touch Viva, which is a Touch Screen with stylus. I am using this phone currently. [Status - Available]
  6. Nokia 1280 – Purchased a very basic black & white phone for my Mother recently (via Flipkart) [Status - Available]
  7. Hidden Update – I also own LG Optimus P500 few months back, which is still running its Trial Run on a separate BSNL 3G SIM.  I am yet to completely migrate from HTC Touch Viva to LG P500. [Status - Available]
  8. Whats next??? Technology is advancing day by day.  As I see the new upcoming models – I get tempted to upgrade my phone.  This time I decided to wait and watch the Competition, and then decide upon a new phone based on my requirement.  [Status - Unknown]

I keep changing my Mobile at least once in every two years. How many mobile phones have you used so far? At the time of writing this Blog Post, I have committed to myself that I will not upgrade my phone again in 2011 ;-)

Interesting Statistics on Social Networking

Category: UncategorizedKamlesh @ 10:32 pm

While radio took 38 years to reach 50 million users, television took 13 years, the Internet four years, and the iPod only around three to touch the same figure.

Facebook added 100 million users and iPhone users touched 1 billion in just about nine months.

India currently has 8 million active Facebook users, which is 2 per cent of the total users worldwide. Social media is big time, no questions asked.

Changes to Microsoft Online Community Forums

Category: Microsoft,UncategorizedKamlesh @ 12:24 am

Today, Microsoft Answers shares the same forum infrastructure as The MSDN, TechNet, Expression and Microsoft brand forums. Which means that End-users, IT Pros, Developers and Designers share the same Profile system:

Existing Forums

For Microsoft Answers, targeted at the consumer audience, Forums need to more fully support the consumer Q&A scenario and features and functionalities for the online service businesses like Windows Live.

For the MSDN, TechNet, Expression and Microsoft brand forums targeted at developers, IT Pros and Designers, the focus is to empower and incent the communities to contribute and seamlessly integrate the experience with the rest of the MSDN and TechNet platforms and applications (wikis, blogs, galleries,…).

To sustain growth and provide an avenue for continued innovation around specific audience needs, the Microsoft Answers forums will be moving to a new platform infrastructure:

New Microsoft Forums

With this transition, there will be changes to the user experience for community members that participate on Answers as well as The MSDN, TechNet, Expression and Microsoft brand forums.  There will be no change in user experience for the community that solely participates on MSDN, TechNet, Expression and Microsoft brand forums.

Read the complete implementation plan here for further details.

Category: UncategorizedKamlesh @ 3:02 am

Finally, I got my own domain and moved my existing Blogger/WordPress blogs to this today.  It took a while because I faced problems with Import/Export process.  Overall, the migration experience was great.  WordPress is an ultimate Blogging Platform!

There might be some issues with images/links, which will be addressed based on feedback from the visitors. Let me call this as Beta version, because I am yet to work on some Layout changes.

Happy Weekend to all!

Win7 Shutdown Button disappeared!

Category: UncategorizedKamlesh @ 8:40 pm

I faced two weird minor issues on my Win7 (x64) Trial Copy temporarily. Here is the first one.  When clicked on Start, the Shutdown button was missing.  At this point of time, I could see Shutdown option when I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del.  After trying the Log Off and relogin, I could get my Shutdown button back.

Shutdown Button is missing

Shutdown Button is available

Whats the mystery behind this!

Big Bazaar Store Locations

Category: UncategorizedKamlesh @ 10:48 pm
The other day I was trying to search for Location of Big Bazaar Stores in India, but could not find straight forward website which had official list of all stores. After sometime, I realized that I forgot to see the Store Locator link on the Pantaloon Website.
If you are looking for the store address, please visit http://www.pantaloon.com/ and click on the “Find a Store” link on the top right hand side of the website. Here, you can choose the store as “Big Bazaar” and then select the City you are looking for. Hope this helps internet users to locate the store easily.
The direct URL of Store Locator is : http://www.pantaloon.com/storelocator-all.asp
Wishin you all a Happy Shopping! :-)

Apple iPhone India launch likely in Sep 2008

Category: UncategorizedKamlesh @ 11:37 pm

Indians will no longer need to illegally buy, unlock and then use the most-desired item on gadget lovers’ lists — the Apple iPhone. Its much-awaited and delayed India launch is expected with telecom operator Vodafone in the first week of September.
The Cupertino, California-based company, according to Apple retail sources, said initially the 8 GB version of the much-hyped touchscreen device — which combines Wi-Fi capabilities with a powerful email client, TV feeds, online music store and map-based location guide — will be launched at a price ranging between Rs 27,200 and Rs 28,000.
Based on buyer response, the launch of the 16 GB version will be staggered to the middle of 2009.
Apple sources in Singapore, when contacted last month, had maintained that the India launch would happen in 2008, but were tight-lipped on the exact date.
Apple reportedly claims to have shipped four million iPhones this January since its US launch on June 29 last year, and its chief Steve Jobs has targeted sales of 10 million units by December 2008.
The tie-up is an exclusive arrangement with AT&T. Initial sales targets for the iPhone in India or unit numbers at the time of launch are as yet unavailable, with Apple wary of grey market sales in India.
