Facebook Login Password missing

Category: Internet,SocialNetworking,TechnologyKamlesh @ 9:15 am

When I accessed Facebook page, I noticed that it has the Login and Password fields missing on top. It just displays the Sign Up form as shown below:
Facebook Email/Phone and Password entry fields missing

Tried refreshing this page twice, but still displayed the same screen.  As I am noticing such behavior for the first time, I thought of taking a screenshot and sharing it on my blog. The 3rd time when I performed refresh, it showed me the Login controls (Email/Phone and Password).  But when I tried to login, it showed me error message – “Facebook Will Be Back Soon – Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes. In the meantime, read more about why you’re seeing this message. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site.”

Facebook under maintenance 15 Feb 2013

So the story is that Facebook is under maintenance (15-Feb-2013 08:25am IST).  I do understand that every system needs maintenance, but why did Facebook didn’t mention the maintenance window detail on their Home Page!

Facebook Login Page differences in Firefox IE Chrome

Category: Browsers,SocialNetworking,TechnologyKamlesh @ 11:23 am

I am noticing that the Login Page of Facebook appears with Mark’s picture in Firefox.  The same does not happen in IE10/Chrome.  Is this the same behavior for everyone?

Facebook Login bug

Category: Browsers,SocialNetworking,TechnologyKamlesh @ 6:07 am

Since last few days, on my Windows 8 Laptop, I am getting the following screen after I try to Login to Facebook account:

Facebook Login showing blank page with LOGIN_ATTEMPT=1 in the URL

It shows the link “https://www.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1” on the URL and displays a blank white page.  The login_attempt parameter shows value 1. To solve this problem, I just reload (refresh) the page using F5 key.  Once reloaded, it shows the home page properly.

I primarily use Firefox to access Social Networking websites. Based on my initial analysis, the above Facebook login issue started since Firefox got updated from version 18.0.1 to 18.0.2.

Firefox browser updated from 18.0.1 to 18.0.2

As assumed it to be a Firefox bug.  I even tried the following to troubleshoot:

  • Cleared up Cache in Firefox and restarted the browser
  • Reset the Internet Connection
  • Even tried this from my another Desktop PC.
  • Changed DNS Servers to Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 4.4.4.4)

Nothing from above options, helped me to resolve the problem in Firefox.  As issue kept repeating for few days, I experimented other browsers to login to Facebook.

Surprisingly, both Internet Explorer and Chrome showed up similar problem, but in a different way.  The F5 (refresh/reload) command once again came to my resume in other browsers.  Below is the screenshots from IE 10, which shows HTTP 500 Internal Server Error:

IE10 showing HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

And, here is the screenshot from Google Chrome browser, which shows HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error):

HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An expected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

If you are saving your login password (remember password feature) in browser, then you may not get into this mess.  The above issue appears only for those who always manually type password to login. I hope most of the users who are facing this problem are able to login using F5 (refresh) command.

Update (10-Feb-2013):  Without making any changes to my settings, today the Facebook Login page is working perfectly. It looks like the Facebook team has fixed this bug silently :-)   I tried in all browsers, and the login works perfectly.  I hope it is working well for others too.

To create a new document online (using just your browser), click on Add a Doc and choose Word Document.

Add a Doc menu option

Thats it! You will get a Word Editor with the Ribbon toolbar.  Unfortunately, while typing my Sample document, I encountered this error – “Microsoft Word Web App encountered an unexpected error” (shhhh… its still Beta or something wrong with my Broadband connection!):

Encountered Unexpected Error

Clicked RESTART and lost the typed contents.  After this, created a New Document and saved it.  My New Document name is Hello-Docs and is shared with one of my friend on Facebook now.

Isn’t it a great tool to create/access/share your Microsoft Office Documents online!
