ASUS M3A78-EM recommended resolution 1440×900 missing

Here is one more weird problem that I am facing on my Windows 7 (x64) computer.  The AMD ASUS M3A78-EM onboard Motherboard has ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics and my ViewSonic 17inch monitor has 1440×900 resolution. Sometimes, when I start my computer, the Display Resolution changes and I don’t see the recommended resolution under Display Screen Resolution screen:

After multiple reboots (perhaps shutdown, wait for 5 min), when I restart the Computer, the recommended screen resolution comes back.  I have noticed that restarting the OS doesn’t help.  I have to shutdown the computer, switch off the power supply completely and wait for 5 minutes.  May be something internally getting cooled down for the problem to get fixed.  And after a gap, when I start my PC, everything becomes normal.  The same Display Screen Resolution screen shows the recommended settings:

Today, I even downloaded and installed the latest ATI Drivers (10-7_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu.exe), but it didn’t help.  I have already logged a Support Ticket with ASUS Technical Support, but they have not provided a permanent fix for this problem.  I am wondering, should I give a try to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (Beta)! Will it fix my problem or create any new problems!!!

Duplicate Desktop.ini files in same Folder!

Here is something weird that I found, which can be a challenge for Operating System Fundamentals.  Have you seen two files with same name, under the same folder/directory?  Today, I noticed this behavior in my Pictures library of Windows 7.  The file desktop.ini is shown twice in the Windows Explorer.

It’s not a trick created by adding special hidden character to the file name.  May be, virus??? huh!

Update – 2-Dec-2010:

I found the reason for the duplicate files few weeks back.  One file is actually located in D:\Users\Public\Desktop folder (common for all)and another in D:\Users\kamlesh\Desktop folder (specific to logged in user).

NDC 2010 Torrent Downloads

FIFA World Cup 2010 Final

While the Final match between NED and ESP is going Live, I thought of sharing my updates related to this mega event.  First of all – I am not a great fan of World Cup 2010, so missed to watch all the previous matches.  Today, the Live Match is running Live on Tata Sky ESPN HD. (Channel # 415)  An hour back, the ESPN HD channel showed this notice!

There was a great performance during the Pre-Final match event, where Nelson Mandela received a warm welcome from all the World Cup fans. Also seen was amazing laser show inside the stadium, which attracted me.  I could see some Cloud Tags floating on the ground.  So whats the technology behind these impressive presentations? Is that PowerPoint 2010, Silverlight or Flash or something else?

Meanwhile, I just noticed that Google’s logo is changed too.  Google is known for their such creative Logos based on the events across World. It also, now contains a pagination that represents Goal.

During the 12-minutes half time break, ESPN HD channel again showed this banner.  So far both teams are scoring zero.

Many of you must have seen this World Cup 2010 Calendar online.  This is really an amazing creation by Web Development Team.  Hats off to the entire team who has showed a great Showcase of Adobe Flash application.  You just need to move your mouse across the dial to get its updates.
