Windows 2008 Configuring updates Stage 3 of 3 loops and reboots

Recently, while setting up Windows 2008 Standard Edition operation system on Virtual Box, I faced the problem of Windows Updates going into endless loop and rebooting the system.

Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete.

I tried the F8 (Advanced Boot Options) key and selected the Last Known Good Configuration option.  But this also ran into endless loops.

As this was a new build, the only solution I got is to discard this Virtual Machine and build a new one from scratch.  The next time, the Windows Updates got installed properly without any issues.

I could recollect that the first time while downloading Windows Updates, I faced problem with my Network Connection, due to which I had to restart my VM manually.  I am assuming that this might have caused the problem of rebooting loops.

Did anyone managed to solve this problem, without building the system from scratch?

SharePoint Designer cannot render the XSLT in this Data View

Recently, while working with a Data View Web Part in SharePoint Designer 2007, I faced the below errror:

SharePoint Designer cannot render the XSLT in this Data View.  Try to undo your changes or re-insert the Data View.

XSLT transform failed: 0×80004005 : Type mismatch. Error occurred during a call to property or method ‘NameChanged’.

This error appeared when I clicked the “Design” tab in SPD 2007.  The “Code” view showed up without any problem and the deployed Web Part ran successfully.  Although I have got the resolution, but yet to know the reason behind the fix.  The problem here is that – to meet the client requirement, I had to comment the following IF block which helps me to show the Filter drop-downs without the “Show/Hide Filter Choices” link.

After I removed the comment for above line, I could see the Data View Web Part in Design mode.  Leave me a note if someone knows the reason behind this error.

BSNL 3G Datacard No Device Error!

When I insert the BSNL 3G Datacard to my desktop PC, it automatically launches the BSNL 3G Software and on the Top Left Hand side I see  these status messages “Device Detected“, “Starting“, “SIM Ready” and finally “No Device“.  It then pops up a notification message “No response from device, please reboot the device” as shown below:

I had got the same error on the 2nd day after buying this product, but had managed to resolve this by reinstalling the software.  This error is back now and the re-installation is not helping me.  The customer care has only 1 response – visit the BSNL office! Does anyone has any alternate way to troubleshoot this problem?

I am using Teracom USB Datacard 7.2mbps which comes with software version LW273v1.2 on Windows 7.

Update 6-Dec-2010 (Solved):

My problem is resolved now. This morning I went to BSNL Office (Bangalore) with a written complaint.  The concern person was very helpful.  She tried my Data Card in one of the system at their office. It gave the same “No Device” error on their system.  She immediately gave me a replacement.  The new Data Card is of same make and it is working fine :-)

Idea Mobile Prepaid Full Talk Time offers

Are you holding a Idea Mobile (earlier Spice in Bangalore) pre-paid mobile phone and looking for full talk-time offers?  Although Idea has a self service option (dial *121#), but there are chances that you may not get the kind of help you are looking for!  Recently, I wanted to e-recharge my Idea pre-paid mobile and was looking for Full Talk Time offers, but all the results in *121# gave me the full talk time offers with limited validity.  Then I sent an email asking for details to Idea Customer care (ccare.kar@idea.adityabirla.com).  After sending the mail, I got a mail deliver failure with Disk Quota full! In the Gmail age, isn’t it funny to see such undelivered mails! Or, are there so many complaints/mails to Customer Care, which made the Customer Care mailbox full? LOL!

Another Undelivered mail comes after few hours:

After 2 days, I get a mail response – looks like the mail goes to a Group of people and someone replies to it.  The customer care pulls the required information in this Excel (Prepaid Products Single Sheeter Nov’10 new.xls) format.  Notice the filename – this is latest :-)

Some suggestions for a better Customer Service, so that both Customer & Support team can get some peace of mind:

  • Keep the details at central location. Do not replicate information.
  • The best place would be to provide precise details via Self-Help (*121#).
  • Make use of the Website or Social Networking to help customers in timely manner.
